Right standing before God is only gained by faith through His grace. We tend to want to be in control and earn our salvation through the works of the Law. But, by the works of the Law no one will be justified. The Law was there as a tutor to point out our sin and our need for a righteousness that comes by faith. Abraham is the perfect example of this type of righteousness. God made Abraham a promise and Abraham received that promise by faith. We too receive the same promises by faith, not works. The God who is capable of fulfilling these promises is the same God who has the power to raise the dead to life and create that which was not. Our faith in the work of Christ justifies us before God by His grace.
