As pastor David continues our study in the book of Judges, the painfully cyclical pattern for Israel of "The Four D's" (Disobedience, Discipline, Despair and Deliverance) are clearly seen in chapters 4 and 5. Disobedience always leads to God's loving discipline if we are really His children. The despair we feel while under the hand of God's discipline is there to lead us to repentance. The gospel is clearly seen as God graciously delivers those who cry out to Him with repentant hearts. In this story God uses the unlikely combination of the prophetess Deborah, the hesitant warrior Barak and the deceptive Jael to deliver his people.
