Paul continues his presentation of the gospel and our universal need for it by demonstrating that even his fellow Jews, who consider themselves righteous because of their racial/national identity as the chosen people of God, are under the law of sin and death. God had given them the covenant, the Law and circumcision as the sign of the covenant but their pride was to no avail. Their hypocrisy of not practicing what they preach only further demonstrates their need for the gospel to change their hearts. All are under sin and in need of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
