Kicking Things Off
How have you seen the effects of the fall this week in your life?
Getting Into It
Read the passage, Gen. 3:1-13.
Who is Satan? What are the purposes of Satan? What are some of the schemes of Satan? Why should we not fear Satan?
Compare Gen. 2:16 with the dialogue from our passage. What are the differences? Why are these differences important? Why is it so important to know the Word of God well?
What did David mean when he said, "Do we stand over scripture or under it?" What does it look like in your life?
What happens when we fail to believe what God has clearly said in His Word?
What did Satan entice Eve to doubt about God? How does that very same doubt entice us towards disobedience?
Tim Chester suggests that at the root of all sin is doubting either God’s goodness, greatness, graciousness or gloriousness. Discuss each of these. When you are tempted, which of these doubts are rearing their ugly heads?
What should Eve have done in this situation? Where was Adam during this encounter? What was his role, what should Adam have done? What can we learn and apply in our own lives from that?
Why do Adam and Eve hide from God? As God pursues them and interacts with them after the fall, what do we learn about God and sinners?
