Can't Take it With You Ecclesiastes 2:18-26

03/07/10 ~ David Fandey ~ Listen ~ Download

When we die we will leave behind all that we have labored for in this life. While that can be kind of depressing to think about, it reminds us that there is so much more to this life than just living to produce. This sobering thought points us to live life before the face of God (coram deo) and enjoy the blessings He has given us and yet not live enslaved to those blessings.

The Pleasure Test Ecclesiastes 2:1-11

02/28/10 ~ David Fandey ~ Listen ~ Download

Seeking pleasure is not necessarily wrong in and of itself. God has designed us to desire and enjoy pleasures He has given us within His will. Wisdom Hunter Ecclesiastes 1:12-18

02/14/10 ~ David Fandey ~ Listen ~ Download

Wisdom from God is good and considered to be a gift from Him. However, pursuing wisdom and knowledge as an end in themselves is just one more form of idolatry and outside of God is meaningless. God’s wisdom leads us to see our need for Him and the gospel.

Dust in the Wind Ecclesiastes 1:3-11

02/07/10 ~ David Fandey ~ Listen ~ Download

Life under the sun without the God perspective is a series of endless cycles of repetition devoid of meaning. Nothing changes, nothing is new! We see the human condition as a monotonous prison akin to the fate of the mythological Sysiphus condemned to a futile eternity. The writer points us to a world that is in bondage. Redemption is required for everything that God has created under the sun. Only in redemption do we find hope. That is ultimately the call in Ecclesiastes!
