What to Expect

Visiting a church for the very first time can be a little daunting, especially if you don’t know what to expect.  It doesn’t have to be that way, especially if it’s The Fields you visit.  Below you will find out a little about our Sunday morning gatherings so when you show up you aren’t immediately looking for an exit!

Each Sunday, The Fields meets at Aviara Oaks Middle School with services at 9:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. to worship God.  Our gatherings consist of worship through music, teaching from the Bible and connecting relationally with each other.

Arrival

If this is your first time at The Fields, it might be helpful to show up five minutes early just to get acquainted.  When you pull into the school parking lot, note that there is a visitor parking area especially for you in the lower lot.   As you walk toward the gym where we meet, you will notice a mix of people, hanging out and talking on the patio just outside.  Please help yourself to free hot drinks and stop by the information table where you will find out more about The Fields.  As you enter the gym you will receive a program with important information about The Fields and upcoming events.  Once inside, feel free to sit where you like although the seats toward the front are really more comfortable.

The Fields is a relational church.  The people at The Fields are pretty casual and it’s common to see lots of shorts and flip-flops.  However, you will find a variety so come in what you are comfortable wearing. You will also find that the people at The Fields are very welcoming so be ready for quite a few smiles when visiting.

Children

If you have kids (ages 1-13), we have an excellent program where kids can learn about God and build friendships with each other in a loving and safe environment.  On the patio outside the gym there is a Children’s Ministry table where you can find out about our kids programs.  They can point you and your child in the right direction so that you can make it to their classroom.  We have a check-in and check-out procedure that requires an adult to be present for drop-off and pick-up.  If you have a cell phone we ask that you put it on vibrate so that if your child needs you during the service, we can let you know.  Infants are welcome in the main service.  There is a speaker on the patio, so if your baby needs to go outside, feel free to do so without missing any of the service.

Services

Each service starts with worship of God through music and a short reading from the Psalms.  The music is led by a band and includes a mix of old and new that includes traditional hymns. After the music, one of the pastors will provide teaching from the Bible.  Typically, The Fields will work through a specific book of the Bible over several months.  After the teaching time, we respond to God with worship through music again.  During this second set of music, we remember the sacrifice of Jesus by celebrating the Lord’s Supper (Communion) each week.  All followers of Jesus are invited to participate in this regardless of what church you belong to.  We use a “self-serve” format with tables set up in the front and back.  The whole service lasts about an hour and twenty minutes.

On your way out, please stop by the welcome table to connect with our staff and members of our welcome team who will have a gift for you.  Also, please stop by the Community Group board to find out about our small groups that meet throughout the week in homes around North County.  Lastly, on the first and third Sundays of the month, join us at the picnic tables outside for a free meal after each service.
